Icestock!
Today we
all got to experience a true McMurdo tradition: Icestock and the
Great Chili Cook-off. The weather was fantastic and hundreds
of people turned out to dance, play frisbee and hula-hoop. The
bands were really quite good and featured such names as Be Ashamed, the
McMones (a Ramones cover band) and other names that aren't quite as
suitable for an all-ages website such as this!
The guys over at Aviation Technical Services won the
Chili Cook-off and my friends from the Antarctic Sun won honorable
mention with their special vegetarian chili. The whole event
began at noon and continued until around 6:00 PM. Everyone seemed
to have a fantastic time, but my guess is that things will be pretty
quiet around town tomorrow morning...
