A day in Christchurch

After getting up around 7:30, I had the breakfast part of my "Bed and Breakfast":  fruit, with eggs and bacon.  I then took a quick walk around town, but cut it short because it began to rain.  After a lunch of sushi and udon, I headed back to the Windsor to catch the shuttle out to the Antarctic Centre to get fitted for all the gear that we'll need in Antarctica.  The list of items is long - three jackets, about a half-dozen gloves, several hats, thermal underwear and a large pair of rubber boots known as "bunny boots."  They weigh a lot and are not too much fun to walk around in.  The Antarctic Centre is right next to the Christchurch airport and has a gift shop and some fun exhibits / rides on what it is like to be in Antarctica.
After getting fitted for our clothes, we headed back in to town to rest a bit before heading out to Bailie's for dinner.  Bailie's is on the square and is a United States Antarctic Program tradition.  People heading down to the Ice get a discount and the food is great.  Dana and I went for a few hours to have drinks and chat with some friends that we met today who will be working with webcam technology and general gadgetry in and around McMurdo.
After dinner, it was home to bed.  We have to catch a 5:00 AM shuttle out to the airport to see if we will head down to McMurdo tomorrow.
